interesting Victorian Irish Haystack Measure of Half Gallon capacity by
Austen & Son of Cork. Good clear touchmark to base. Stamped on the neck
with the owners name and town L.MICH CORKRAN MIDLETON* and on the body 1
HALF GALLON
*Midleton is a few miles east of Cork
City on the N25
There are
various verification marks stamped at lip C above RW and 1835 (R and W
were the surname initials of the Cork City inspectors Thomas Rogers &
James Wherland),Crowned VR above ER C stamped twice for East Riding of
Cork and a circular Crowned VR with a harp and number 553
Half Gallon
Haystack measure are not common and much rarer with ownership
names.Circa 1840 Height 9 ¾”
