A Rare Gabled Ampulla excavated from the Thames. Prolonged wear and 700 years in the river have worn away much of the cast decoration yet a little is still visible. The angular hanging loops are still attached as are the crosses at either end of the roof.

These early medieval ampullae cast in tin are now extremely rare. They contained holy water tinged with the blood of Thomas Becket who was martyred in December 1170.Almost immediately pilgrim’s began flocking  to Canterbury and leaving with these souvenirs
